Allyn

Once a logging town but today a center for large berry farms in the environs. Scattered shops and dwellings, a small white church, and the unoccupied shell of what was once a resort hotel constitute the town.

When the town was platted in 1889, it was named for Judge Frank Allyn, a prominent Tacoma jurist, who was active in promoting the town.

Allyn Church

The Allyn church is the oldest standing building constructed by the early individuals who settled in the Allyn area. Although the church building was constructed in 1909, Congregational records show that the church was first organized in 1906. By 1917, Congregationalists began to consolidate and close many of their small churches. According to a former Allyn school teacher, Plymouth Congregational Church of Seattle sponsored services in the 1920s by sending a minister out by ferry on Saturday afternoon and sending him back by ferry Sunday afternoon.
