On the western shore of Hood Canal south of the mouth of the Hamma Hamma River in north central Mason County. It was named by Cmdr. Charles Wilkes as Ayock’s Point. The name has been shortened to the present form over years of use. Most probably, it was named for a member of the Wilkes Expedition.
