Free Lutheran Mission House

The building is associated with the history of the rural Breidblik community on the Kitsap Peninsula, serving from 1908 until WWII as a community and religious center for the Scandinavian settlers who homesteaded the area. Reflecting both the ethnic heritage of the settlers and their religious independence, the chapel conducted services in Norwegian and Swedish without the restrictions of either permanent clergy or a mother church. Today, the chapel and adjacent cemetery are the best preserved reflections of Breidabliks’s past, and an important symbol of the Scandinavian heritage of the area.
