The tour crosses the Klickitat River, which has its source in Klickitat Glacier on Mount Adams. Through a high plateau, the winding river has cut a deep gorge to its mouth at Lyle. Near the mouth of the river, along the western bluffs, are strange round depressions surrounded by stones that seemingly form a wall.
