The original name was Riverside, but was changed in 1902 by the Northern Pacific Railway for Joseph Lamar, from whom the right-of-way had been acquired.

Cummings-Goodwin Cabin

These two single-story log cabins are joined by a single roof. Build in 1862, they are reportedly the oldest standing buildings in the Touchet River Valley. Gideon and Lucy Cummins, and her father, George Goodwin left Kansas and followed the Oregon Trail to this site where they homesteaded. By 1872, the land passed to James and Joseph LaMar, who eventually acquired 14 sections and established the small town of LaMar. Some buildings from that townsite survive.
