The ferry links Point Defiance and Tacoma with Tahlequah across Dalco Passage, between Point Defiance in northwest Pierce County and the south end of Vashon Island in southwest King County. In 1841, it was named by Cmdr. Charles Wilkes and is one of the features named by him for with no name origin.
