Prescott is a community on the Touchet River where Rev. Henry H. Spalding, an early Protestant missionary, established a home in 1859. The Oregon Improvement Company platted a town site on May 12, 1882. The place was named by the Oregon Railway & Navigation Company for C. H. Prescott, its general superintendent.

Cox-Utter House
A lovely Queen Anne Free Classic-style home, it was built in 1900 by Herbert P.G. Cox, who reportedly modeled it after his wife’s childhood home in the South. John Utter arrived as a schoolteacher but quickly became a successful businessman and farmer. He purchased the house in 1905. It remained in the family until the 1980s. It was the home of two Prescott mayors.
