The tour passes through leafy woods to the Strain Mine; However, the only mine still operating in the area is the John Henry No. 1, an open-pit mine, near Black Diamond. All others have been closed for several decades.

Ahead are the silhouettes of snow-capped mountains, and square little dwellings, all in need of paint, scattered on both sides of the road.
