The Elwha River rises in the Elwha Basin of the Olympic National Park southeast of Mount Olympus. It flows north through Lake Mills (Elwha Reservoir) and Lake Aldwell, to the Strait of Juan de Fuca near Angeles Point. The river was charted under the present Native American name by Capt. Henry Kellett in 1847.
