The monument commemorates the memory of the famous pioneer. Here also the Jacob Ebey Blockhouse, restored by Mr. Pratt, was built in 1855 by the father of Colonel Isaac Ebey. Both sites are also accessible on foot via a well-marked path starting at the Ebey Prairie Overlook.
